Why do people pronounce monkey as mung-key and not mong-key?

By right, if you add the m in front of on, you should get mon right?

Just like why people pronounce monk as munk instead of mong (with the k sound behind).

I never could figure out why. When I was young, I used to say mong instead of munk! Fortunately, mong-key was never heard! Hahaha!

"He's a mong! There are so many mongs here! Mummy, how come there are so many mongs here? How come mongs have to shave their head?"

Awww.... Mong sounds so much cuter hor? Hahaha! =)

Another thing - Just the other day, I overheard someone asking his friend, "Do you want to play bowling next week?"

Yes - You play soccer. You play basketball.

But you don't "play bowling".

You bowl.

So I guess it should be, "Do you want to bowl next week?" instead.

Eh.. It just dawned on me that you say wan zu qiu (play soccer), wan lan qiu (play basketball), so wan bao ling qiu should also be "play bowling" right? Ahh... So that's why soo many people are saying "play bowling"!
